Freddie Halstead had a special Christmas planned for his family. Freddie, who owns and runs the Lake Highlands Mathnasium with wife, Amy, got lucky. He purchased the contents of a storage locker at auction, an activity he likens to the TV show Storage Wars. Inside the locker were shelving units and miscellaneous stuff, but Freddie felt he hit the jackpot when he saw the 5 foot long sleigh and golden reindeer.
The Halsteads had finished unloading the decorations from a truck and were preparing to spruce them up at their new home on Covemeadow when they realized the reindeer and sleigh had vanished.
“I guess there will be no Christmas,” posted Freddie on Nextdoor.com, frustrated to know the items had been stolen in broad daylight from his driveway on a Monday afternoon.
The Halsteads had plans to take the sleigh to their Mathnasium location for photos with students before setting it up at home for their own children to enjoy.
“We were very excited about it,” says Freddie.
Freddie hopes one of his new neighbors captured the heist on security video or that someone in Lake Highlands recalls seeing the perps making their getaway.
“We live in a big city with a few crummy people,” Freddie says, “but the lake, the trees, the schools – all the great things about Lake Highlands make it worth it to live here.”
