A group of Lake Highlands High School and St. Mark’s School of Texas alumni will lead a youth pickleball camp at the LHHS tennis courts next month.
Led by former LHHS varsity tennis player Trace Cabaniss, the camp will run from Aug. 5 to Aug. 9. The sessions go from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the LHHS tennis courts.
In an email Cabaniss said that area courts are often filled with adult pickleball enthusiasts, leaving little room for youth to compete against each other.
The sessions are open to all youth grades 1-12. There will be two groups: a beginner/younger group and the older/intermediate/advanced group. The advanced camp will cost $100, and the beginner camp will cost $70. Signups can be found here.
Campers of the week and advanced camp tournament winners will be given high-end Warstic pickleball paddles.
The camp is being organized by Cabaniss, with LHHS Tennis alumni Will Brokaw and Ben Stone instructing. St.Mark’s alumnus Cal Graham will also instruct. All four currently attend Texas A&M. Cabaniss has previously led similar camps.
