Named Shamrocks and Shenanigans, the fundraiser celebrates the halfway mark to St. Patrick’s Day. The event takes place this Saturday from 6:30-10:30 p.m. at the Network’s headquarters in Richardson.

The fundraiser will benefit the Pat Doherty Memorial Fund for Continuing Education at Network of Community Ministries. Named in honor of Pat Doherty, an educator who did extensive volunteering for the Network before passing away from cancer last year, the fund provides scholarships for trade schools, licensing and college courses to help individuals improve their job prospects.

“Pat’s selfless dedication to Network’s mission has impacted countless neighbors as they sought an improved quality of life,” said Network CEO Abbie Kauffman in a release. “We are grateful to her commitment to our organization and honored to memorialize her legacy of service through this fund.”

Tickets cost $50 and include $2,000 in chips. In addition to casino games, Irish soda bread and traditional music will also add to the St. Patrick’s Day atmosphere.

NCM is a collaborative effort between local churches and area organizations. Local organizations involved include Lake Highlands United Methodist Church, Forest Meadow Baptist Church and Grace Church Lake Highlands.

The Network told The Advocate in January that almost 40% of neighbors helped through its programs live in Lake Highlands. Overall, the organization serves “32,000 individuals through over 241,000 units of service annually,” according to a release.
