Ice Cream and Crepes, formerly White Rock TX Nutrition, reopened in May with a revamped menu serving homemade treats and Mexican-style snacks.
White Rock TX Nutrition originally opened next to Haute Sweets Patisserie in August of 2021, selling flavorful teas which owner Jesus Ojeda says have health benefits. Drink offerings included fresh teas, boba drinks and refreshing concoctions like micheladas and chamoyadas. But business hadn’t picked up, so he decided to revamp his store as Ice Cream and Crepes, operating similar to Mexican-style ice cream shops known as neverias. Apparently, it’s worked out pretty well.
“It’s been better,” Ojeda said. “Honestly a lot of people like regular stuff over healthy.”
While crepes, waffles and desserts like flan had already been added to the menu before the revamp, there was still room for growth. As the new name suggests, six flavors of homemade, preservative-free ice cream were added to the menu. Ojeda also said he is working on adding homemade sorbets, with flavors including lime, mango and watermelon.
Believe it or not — crepes and ice cream have been his best sellers so far, especially his Nutella crepes.
“The Nutella crepe being one of the top seller crepes that we have, which comes with strawberries, bananas, hazelnuts, and Nutella, of course,” he said. “That’s our top selling crepe.”
The drink menu is still available, and as is common among neverias, snacks like elote and sour Takis compliment sweeter options on the menu.
“We were just trying to make it a little exciting,” he said. “To have a snack whenever somebody wants to have a snack, you know?
If you’ve driven down Northwest Highway and are wondering why you haven’t noticed it, it’s probably because Ojeda hasn’t put up a sign yet. It’s coming soon, he says.
Going forward, he says he may add coffee to the menu as it begins to cool in the fall.
“We’re trying to see how the winter is gonna treat us,” Ojeda said. ” We’re just looking forward to that.”
Ice Cream and Crepes is located at 10238 E Northwest Hwy.
