Runners prep for the 5K race.
Run by the Lake Highlands Town Center on Memorial Day to check out Play for the Day, a free outdoor festival featuring KidZone activities, live music, an art show and a 5K race.
Funds raised go to Camp Sweeney, which helps children with juvenile diabetes learn to test blood sugars, make healthy diet choices and administer shots of insulin. For diabetic kids, experiencing the joys of “away camp” would be impossible with the medical supervision provided by Sweeney counselors.
The 5K race begins at 9 a.m. May 27 on Wildcat Way, and the festival runs from 9 to noon. You may register to run here or sponsor a camper here.
