They began building a nest near Sunset Bay, but they quickly abandoned it, said Brett Johnson, an urban biologist with Dallas Park and Recreation.

Now, they’re being seen toward the south end of the lake. And based on the frequency of the female eagle sightings, it’s not likely that there was an active nest this year.

The eagles were spotted near Lake Highlands Park a few weeks ago, but Johnson said he hasn’t heard anything about them hanging around. They could begin building a nest, but it’s late in the season, he said.

At least one eagle was popping up around the lake last August or September. And there was a good chance it was Nick or Nora, the pair of eagles that captured local and state attention last year when strong winds pushed their nest out of a tree near White Rock Lake Park. Evidence of one egg was found then.
