A teen involved in the death of Ali Elbanna outside the Costco Business Center on Park Lane will face a judge today on whether he’ll be tried as an adult.
Judge Cheryl Lee Shannon of the 305th Dallas County District Court will hold a juvenile certification hearing for the teen today at 10:30 a.m. at the Henry Wade Juvenile Justice Center. The hearing was previously scheduled for April 26, but was reset the day prior to the original hearing date due to an issue with court documents, according to a news release.
The 16-year-old was one of four individuals charged with capital murder related to Elbanna’s death, along with multiple counts of aggravated robbery for offenses committed earlier that day at NorthPark.
Elbanna’s family has pushed to have the teen charged as an adult because he is the one who allegedly shot and killed him. Elbanna, a 30-year resident of Dallas-Fort Worth, was 60.
The family of Mr. Elbanna circulated a petition calling for community support and justice that received close to 1,500 signatures.
