One Berkner High School student won the 2022 Texas State Japanese Language Contest, and five other RISD students won regional competitions.
The competition was held virtually on Mar.12 with 36 contestants from Dallas, Austin, Houston and San Antonio.
All six RISD students finished in the top two tiers of their category at the Dallas Regional Japanese Speech Contest.
Adanuri Anyiam of Berkner won first place in the free speech competition and also won first place in the regional competition. Richardson High School student Shaina Albert placed second in the regional competition and won the Inspiration Award at the state competition.
The following students placed first and second at the regional level:
- Berkner’s Evelyn Tial finished first in poetry.
- Lake Highlands’ Habeeb Abiodum finished second in poetry.
- RHS’ Ghania Ewelike finished first in haiku.
- RHS’ Soliana Amlak finished second in haiku.
