In a February instagram post, Smith shared all about his acting experience and traveling to Blanco, TX to shoot and finish up the movie. To hear him tell it, he finished reading the script the same day he got it.

“I remember getting this script back in Nov and read the entire thing in one sitting on the porch swing,” he writes. “It’s special. I’ve never acted in his way, but I fell in love with the character and knew that I had to do it…or at least give it my best shot.”

Moonrise, directed by Vickie Bronaugh, is about a country singer who loses his wife and has to deal with the grief that follows. The death sidetracks his career and he tends to push away his young daughter. Then he meets a horse trainer who teaches him how to live again, according to the film’s IMDb page.

Bronaugh has also served as director on several Power Rangers series, including Power Rangers Zeo.

No date has been announced for the Moonrise movie release.
