Wildcat sophomores Tre Johnson and Lizzie Kellam have been turning heads on the basketball court since they were knee-high to June bugs. At 6’5” and 5’7” respectively, that’s been a long, long time.
Johnson and Kellam have been nominated by Dave Campbell’s Texas Basketball as “Chicken Express Basketball Players of the Week.” Go to the Dave Campbell’s website here and check both polls on the right side of your screen to vote for them both.
Kellam was touted this week as a “Player to Watch” by Andrew Loughmiller in Prep Girls Hoops. He called her “a dynamic scoring guard” and said she “has that special combination of ball handling and shot making off the dribble that few possess.” She earned 29 points and 7 rebounds against Pearce last week and faces 9 competitors in the online poll.
Johnson, also up against 9 tough players from around the state, scored 28 points and 9 rebounds against Pearce. He’s received offers from national champion Baylor, Texas, Illinois, Kansas, UNLV, Tennessee, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech and Texas A&M, among several others.
You can watch the boys’ varsity team play Irving Nimitz at LHHS Friday night at 7. The girls’ next home game is the following Friday against Irving High. Go Cats.
