When Carry the Load was founded in 2011 by Lake Highlands High School graduate Stephen Holley and fellow veteran Navy SEAL Clint Bruce, the goals of the grassroots nonprofit were simple. Holley and Bruce wanted to unite Americans in appreciation for the sacrifices made by servicemembers who carried the load for all.
Best known for its big Memorial Day event, the organization has since raised millions of dollars and attracted thousands of participants nationwide. Today, they’re kicking off this year’s 100,000 Meter Challenge, designed to celebrate Veterans Day and highlight the sacrifices of veterans and their families.
“Not only is the 100KMC a great way to foster some competitive spirit and incentivize activity, but it is also a way to bring attention to Veterans Day and all those who have served our country,” says Jack Hutton, graduate of LHHS and Wildcat football captain from the class of 2020 who now works for Carry the Load. “Every meter you walk, run, bike, row, ruck, and swim is a reminder to honor and thank our veterans.”
If you’re ready to participate, sign up online here for the 31-day challenge. You’ll have until Dec. 11 to bank 100,000 miles on the road, in the gym or in the pool. You may donate here.
