Richardson ISD has adjusted its COVID-19 policies for outdoor activities and athletics.
Masks are now optional for elementary students who are outdoors and actively exercising, playing or moving during outdoor P.E. or recess. Students can still wear their masks if they choose to.
This update comes as a result of discussions from the RISD board of trustees’ meeting in early March, said district Superintendent Jeannie Stone in a video update.
The adjusted mask protocol does not modify or eliminate the Texas Education Agency’s health and hygiene practice requirements for masks, so board action is not necessary.
RISD has expanded its bleacher capacity to 75% for spectators at spring outdoor athletics events. Masks will continue to be required for attendees of RISD’s outdoor events through the event of the school year.
