In December, officer Bervin Smith first started the community initiative to donate baked goods, gift cards and snacks to nurses at Medical City and Texas Health Presbyterian hospitals and the local jail. The division extended donations to Parkland Hospital and Baylor University Medical Center a few weeks back.

The division is making a return to Baylor and Parkland hospitals. The public can donate items Saturday, Jan. 30 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Northeast Division at 9915 E. Northwest Highway for donation Tuesday, Feb. 2. beginning at 10 a.m. for those who want to follow along.

“You requested that we do this again, so here we go!” Smith said in an email. “I can’t tell you how appreciative the nurses were when we came together last year to show them how much we support what they do every day.”

Items that can be donated include:

  • Cookies (individually wrapped)
  • Cakes (individually wrapped)
  • Energy drinks
  • Nuts
  • Gifts cards (Ex. Starbucks, Chipotle, Subway, etc.)
  • Protein bars
  • Chips

Those with questions about the donation event can contact Smith at bervin.smith@dpd.ci.dallas.tx.us or 214-202-6255.
