Last month, officer Bervin Smith headed a community effort to donate baked goods, gift cards and snacks to nurses helping COVID-19 patients at Medical City and Texas Health Presbyterian hospitals and the local jail. The division is now extending the effort to Parkland Hospital and Baylor University Medical Center.

“I have read your emails and received your voicemails. In saying that, we are planning another appreciation for our nurses treating COVID patients,” Smith said in a letter to the community.

In the letter, Smith said the division is planning to deliver items to the two hospitals on Thursday, Jan. 21 beginning at 10 a.m. The division will leave the station at 9915 E. Northwest Highway for those who wish to join the donation.

Those interested in participating can contact Smith at bervin.smith@dpd.ci.dallas.tx.us or 214-202-6255.

Based on COVID regulations, acceptable items for donation include:

  • Protein bars
  • Energy drinks
  • Sodas
  • Nuts
  • Bundt cakes (individual cakes)
  • Potato chips
  • Gift cards
  • Homemade cakes and cookies (packaged individually)
