In-person classes begin today for students in Richardson ISD, but some families have chosen to continue with virtual learning for at least six more weeks. To assist them, Dallas recreation centers, such as the Lake Highlands North Recreation Center across from Lake Highlands High School, will open Virtual Learning Hubs beginning today.
Virtual Learning Hubs (VLHs) are supervised work spaces designed to help students in grades 1-6 participate in virtual classrooms. Dallas Parks & Recreation staff will assist with technical difficulties and keep kids focused on classwork. VLHs will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, and the service is free. In-person registration is required.
A full list of participating rec centers is available here.
Students will need face masks, lunch, required technology, headphones and school supplies. Program hours could change and/or the program could be discontinued if community COVID-19 numbers dramatically change.
