After a record-setting freshman season at Texas, Johnson’s name has gained traction in NBA Draft Discussions, with the six-foot-six guard projected as the number seven overall pick in USA Today’s latest mock draft. However, despite many expecting the former Wildcat to be a one-and-done, Johnson has yet to officially declare for the draft.

Newly-hired Texas Head Coach Sean Miller has already made his thoughts clear on the matter.

“What I would say to him is he needs to go,” Miller recently told the Austin American-Statesman. “That’s his best decision for him and his family.”

Again, Johnson has not yet publicly declared for the draft.

Coming off a dominant first collegiate season in which he averaged 19.9 points per game on 42.7 percent shooting from the floor, he was named SEC Player of the Week five times and finished the season as SEC Freshman of the Year. Johnson has also been named a finalist for the Jerry West Award, which is annually presented to the top shooting guard in Division 1 basketball.

Before his days as a top NBA prospect, Johnson led the Wildcats to a state championship in 2023. He eventually transferred to Link Academy in Missouri before committing to Texas as ESPN’s number four recruit in the 2024 class.

The  early entry deadline for the NBA Draft is April 27, with the combine scheduled for May 11-18 in Chicago. Draft day is June 25.
