McGough and the PID are co-hosting Halloween’s Trunk or Treat, the safe alternative to trick-or-treating. (Side note: who came up with this crazy tradition of sending kids to knock on random strangers’ doors in dark of night to demand candy, anyway?!?)

Last year, about 2,000 children attended Trunk or Treat in the parking lot of Royal Highlands shopping center at Royal and Skillman, and even more are expected this year. Volunteers bring bags of individually-wrapped candy and distribute the goodies Oct. 31 from 5-7 p.m. from decorated cars. There’s a party atmosphere, with games, prizes and other (not-too-spooky) fun. If you can’t stay, you can drop off candy, but you’ll miss the darling faces of kids in costume.
