After police identified the body found in White Rock Creek as 39-year-old Eric Hall, a vigil is being organized to honor the local transgender pioneer.
A GoFundMe also was created to help Hall’s family pay for funeral expenses.
Known as Nicole, she “was a pioneer in the Texas Black Trans Community, and paved the way for many transfolk that came after her,” trans activist Sharon Walker wrote on the fundraiser’s website.
“If you’ve met her, she made you smile with kind words or her humor,” Walker continued. “She had a very generous heart, many of our trans sisters often had to retreat to Nicole and Fannies (her mother) house to escape the harsh reality that we often faced at our homes.”
The cause of her death has yet to be determined. Her body was found in a severe stage of decomposition, with some injuries.
