The Katy Trail Extension pedestrian bridge is now up over Abrams road between Lovers and Mockingbird Lane.
If you’re a user of the extensive trail system through Lake Highlands, around White Rock Lake and southward on the Katy Trail (or if you read Christina Hughes Babb’s excellent recap here), you know runners, walkers and bikers have been eagerly awaiting the progress on that stretch, technically known as Ridgewood Trail from Central Expressway to the White Rock DART station. Work continues, and Bikeable Dallas says the estimated completion date is December of this year.
The Skillman bridge went up in October. The two bridges sat on the side of Northwest Highway waiting to be installed long enough for a curious few to finally dub them “the bridges to nowhere.”
Construction of a bridge over Mockingbird, to allow travel from Mockingbird Station southward toward the Katy Trail, is next on the calendar. Bikeable Dallas reports the contractor is beginning prep work now, and the project should be completed in the first quarter of 2017.
