They won’t be performing on the field at halftime, but the Lake Highlands Highlandettes will be participating in Monday’s College Football Playoff National Championship at AT&T Stadium.

“We will be passing out $25 gift card to everyone that walks into the stadium,” says Captain Madison Wachel. “These gift cards go to a website called Donors Choose. On DonorsChoose.org, public school teachers can create classroom project requests, then anyone can go online to donate to these projects. I think it’s really awesome that so many of these cards will be used to support classrooms in need.”

After their duties greeting guests and passing out cards at 1:50 p.m., they get to relax and enjoy the event.

“I am most looking forward to getting to watch the game from the party deck,” Madison tells me. “It’s gonna be such a blast to be able to go and watch with my team. I think it’s really cool to be able to say that the Highlandettes were a part of the very first National Championship game, and it’s definitely a memory that we will be able to look back on in years to come.”

Madison, who’ll attend Baylor next year, predicts there will be a different team wearing green and gold in the 2016 championship.

“I would be ecstatic if I got to root for the Bears in next year’s game,” says Madison.
