The next few days will be filled with watermelon, pictures, pads, tickets and discount cards for the Lake Highlands football team. They might even squeeze in a little practice as well.

Friday is the annual Watermelon Feed, starting about 10 a.m. at the practice field. The Wildcats will conduct their first practice in full pads starting at 8 a.m., then boosters will bring in a truckload of watermelons for a nice cool-down to celebrate the first week of practice. In the past, members of the LH marching band and cheerleader squads have been honored guests at the Watermelon Feed.

The Watermelon Feed is also the first opportunity to purchase Wildcat Cards – the $10 discount cards that help support the program. The cards are usually a big hit and feature lots of local retailers.

Speaking of sales, season football tickets are on sale Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the foyer of the LHHS auditorium. Season tickets are just $28 (four home games). If you plan on following the Wildcats in future years, it might be good to invest now. More seasons like 2008’s 10 wins and there won’t be many season tickets to be had – just renewals.

Fans can also purchase tickets to the North Texas Classic, LH’s season opener vs. Mesquite, at the season ticket sale. Tickets are $10 for the game which will be played at Frisco’s Pizza Hut Park, one of the nicest sporting venues in the area.

North Texas Classic tickets and Wildcat Cards will also be on sale at the weekend’s other big event, Picture Day at Wildcat-Ram Stadium. The players will be decked out in their Friday night best for photos, both formal and informal, starting at noon.
