A coach never misses talented players more than when the time comes to replace their production. That’s exactly the situation head football coach Scott Smith is in currently.

He has to figure out a way to fill the void left by receivers Billy Allen, Dionte Garrett and Antoine Harrison, all of whom graduated.

“Losing Billy, Antoine and Dionte is tough. Those dudes are hard to replace,”  Smith said.

Returning from last year are Matt Werther and James Duke. Both saw significant time at wide out last season. Werther, though, is coming back from a torn ACL, and Duke is presently sidelined by a leg injury.

As for the newcomers, Smith said junior Anthony Harris will be expected to make a big contribution this season. Both coaches and players are anticipating a breakout season for sophomore Devonte Sunwenghan.

“Look out for Devonte Sunwenghan,” senior captain Dwayne Chandler said.

Another option Smith has is Desmond Roland. Roland is a serious threat running the ball as well as catching. Last season, he played both running back and slot receiver.
