Facing a huge challenge in the final weekend of the regular season, the Lake Highlands baseball team proved to be up to the task on Thursday. The Wildcats whalloped W.T. White, 11-1, to improve to 7-5 in District 9-5A play.

That puts LH just a game behind 8-4 Creekview, which sits in fourth place and momentarily has dibs on the final playoff spot. The Wildcats host Creekview at 7 p.m. tonight, weather permitting, and have already beaten Creekview once. A second win over Creekview would give LH the tiebreaker if both teams tie for the final playoff berth.

Richardson leads the district at 11-1 and has already clinched a playoff berth. W.T. White and Berkner are tied for second at 9-3. Berkner has games remaining with Richardson and W.T. White and, with two losses, could drop into the mix with LH and Creekview. LH has lost to Berkner twice in district play, while Berkner has split with Creekview.

After facing Creekview, LH is scheduled to finish the regular season at Molina at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

In Thursday’s win over W.T. White, Judson Luther picked up the win. Cameron Bodell ripped a triple while Byron Burns, Ryan Browder and R.J. Burns hit doubles.
