The Forest Meadow Junior High PTA presented end-of-year awards last night, with several parents and teachers receiving nods for their service above and beyond.
John Zancana, popular math teacher, was named Teacher of Excellence.
“It’s rare when a child comes home and says ‘math is my favorite subject,'” said PTA VP Michelle Patten, “but that’s what Mr. Zancana’s students say everyday. “He is not only an outstanding teacher, he is also a great supporter of our children. When he is not at school offering tutoring, you will likely find him at the football, volleyball or basketball games. He seems to always make time in his schedule to come our children’s extracurricular events. We are so lucky to have him.”
Mike Bateman earned the Charger Award for his efforts to make the campus safer.
“Mike organized the dads that meet our kids every morning at drop off,” continued Michelle. “Their presence not ensures safety but also deters inappropriate behaviors. His dedication and foresight makes a big difference.”
PTA volunteers Sherri Lewis and Laura Coomber received Golden Apple Awards for contributing large numbers of service hours.
PTA President Ellen Bryant, who couldn’t attend due to family illness, earned a PTA life membership to be presented at a later date.
