For the second year in a row, the Wildcats of Lake Highlands have qualified for the state tournament in 7-on-7 football. The athletes are preparing for their trip to Veterans Memorial Park in College Station, where 128 teams are set to compete June 26 and 27. Now, they just need to find a way to pay for it.
If you’d like to help, you may donate online via their fundraising page here. Contributions will be spent on tournament fees and travel expenses.
“Our athletes have been working hard, and we are ready to compete,” shared boosters. “Your support is greatly appreciated.”
The 7-on-7 game of football looks different from the one we’re used to watching under Friday Night Lights, since there’s no blocking, tackling or kicking. It’s played on a smaller field, and the quarterback doesn’t run the ball. That forces more passing and quicker decision-making, and points are awarded to the defense for interceptions and stopping on downs.
If you’d like to catch the action in person, Veterans Memorial Park is at 3101 Harvey Road in College Station.
