The free event, scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., serves as a prelude to Flag Day on June 14 and will feature educational activities, live demonstrations and family-friendly entertainment centered on the American flag, the “six flags over Texas,” World Cup flags, sailing flags and more.

The celebration is scheduled to begin with an official flag ceremony presented by Scout Troop 890 and will conclude with a live flag retirement ceremony. Attendees are encouraged to bring worn, faded or tattered American flags for collection and proper retirement by the troop at a later date.

Throughout the day, visitors can enjoy balloon art from Peach Palace, test their knowledge during a Flags of the World Cup Challenge at 11:15 a.m., learn about maritime traditions from members of the White Rock Boating Club and Sea Scout Ship 1899, and create their own flag-themed rock paintings. Strouderosa BBQ will also be on-site with food available for purchase.

The event is part of the Dallas Public Library’s “250 Years of Us: Reading America’s Past, Writing Our Future” initiative, a yearlong program exploring how the nation’s history has shaped American democracy through exhibits, book clubs and community events.
