The senior class at LHHS is selling spirit tees.
Highland Park High School is Lake Highlands’ biggest district rival in athletics, and HP vs. LH will be the most exciting football game of the 2023 season. There. I said it. Come at me, bro.
I know, I know, Lake Highlands has battled a variety of fierce competitors over the years. The Plano schools gave us trouble in the 1980s, and Berkner was an intimidating and powerful threat in the recent past. Jesuit always plays us tough, and they bring the double pleasure of seeing LH alums on their coaching staff and LH residents in their grandstands.
But there’s nothing more satisfying than the prospect of defeating Highland Park. They’re closer to home than any other school in our district, and they pilfer some of our favorite teachers, principals and (gasp!) athletic directors.
LH will host HP at Wildcat Stadium at 7 p.m. on Sept. 8, and victory would be sweet, indeed.
The LHHS Student Council will once again host the annual Community Tailgate before the game, and admission is free. You’ll just need one thing to feel right at home: Wildcat T-shirts and other spirit swag. That’s where the LHHS senior class has got you covered.
Log on here to order tees specially designed by the senior class and sold for $15. Proceeds will be used for prom and other senior activities.
“I’m looking forward to not only attending prom but also playing a role in planning it,” Megan Haness told me. She’s a member of the National Honor Society and was elected treasurer for the Class of 2024. She also serves as an editor for the school yearbook and collaborated with the Advocate for a piece on Lake Highlands’ best queso in 2021.
Kate Goodale plays varsity soccer and sings with Espree in addition to serving as senior class secretary. She said it seems “crazy” that it’s finally her turn to be a senior.
“I’m just really looking forward to spending the year with my friends and doing all of the fun senior things we get to do throughout the school year. I’m very excited for everything we have in store this year, and I urge the community to stay up to date with everything we are putting out for them. We need their involvement to make this the best year yet.”
Connor Whitmire is an NHS officer and serves as historian for the class. You won’t see him wearing a senior tee at Wildcat Stadium — he’ll be on the field playing long snapper and backup center for the Cats.
“Both my parents went to LH, so I know how much this community supports its kids,” he said. “A great way everyone can support the kids is to buy one of our spirit shirts. It’d be awesome to look up in the stands and see everyone wearing their community spirit shirts at the Highland Park game.”
