The Pontiff died Monday morning following a protracted illness, Cardinal Kevin Farrell, who served as bishop of Dallas from 2007 to 2016, announced from the Casa Santa Marta.

“He taught us to live the values of the Gospel with fidelity, courage and universal love, especially in favour of the poorest and most marginalized,” Farrell said.

“With immense gratitude for his example as a true disciple of the Lord Jesus, we commend the soul of Pope Francis to the infinite merciful love the One and Triune God”.

Pope Francis had served as Bishop of Rome and head of the Catholic Church for over a decade, having been elected by the Papal Conclave in 2013.

St. Patrick’s will host a mass and rosary in memory of Pope Francis on Tuesday at 8 a.m. The adoration chapel has also been reopened for parishioners.
