It seems as though plans for a Lake Highlands Birdcall location at Lakeridge Village have been scrapped after years of speculation.

Last summer, it was reported that building permits for the site had yet to be issued more than two years after the announcement of Birdcall’s planned arrival. In late 2024, “coming soon” signs were taken down and sources at City Hall told the Advocate Birdcall was in the process of pulling out. Now, the news seems to be official, with the former Birdcall site listed as “available” on Lakeridge Village’s website.

The process was hampered by permitting issues. The three original permit applications from 2022 — a certificate of occupancy and two building permits — were canceled a little under a year later in December of 2023. New permits were applied for by a permit expeditor in March 2024 and are still listed as new or in review, according to the City of Dallas’ online permit database.

At the time of publication, space #500 (the planned Birdcall site) has been listed as available on Lakeridge Village owner EDENS’ website. Advertised at 2,292 square feet, it is unclear whether the lot will be built on before or after a new tenant is found.

One thing that is clear, however, is that after almost three years of announcements and coming soon signs, Lakeridge Village won’t be getting a Birdcall anytime soon.
