Former Lake Highlands High School athlete and Texas men’s basketball guard Tre Johnson scored a season-high 30 points this weekend in a comeback win over Texas A&M, helping to secure a Southeastern Conference Freshman Player of the Week award.
Johnson’s 30 points on 8-18 shooting and 4 made three-point attempts helped the Longhorns rebound from a 22-point second-half deficit, tied for the largest comeback in recent program history, according to Texas Athletics’ website. Earlier in the week, Johnson contributed 12 points and 4 rebounds in a win over Mizzou. On Jan. 27, the SEC named Johnson freshman player of the week for the second time this season.

The 6-foot-6 true freshman guard is averaging just under 19 points per game on 45% shooting from the field. Johnson previously earned freshman player of the week accolades in November, and is viewed by some as a potential one-and-done candidate for the 2025 NBA Draft.
While at LHHS, Johnson led the boy’s basketball team to a UIL 6A State Championship in 2023 and was named National Junior of the Year by MaxPreps and Mr. Basketball in state of Texas, according to Texas Athletics’ website.
Following the title run, Johnson transferred to Link Academy, a basketball powerhouse and preparatory school in Missouri. He committed to the Longhorns in November of 2023 as a five-star recruit.
