Wisconsin-based Kohl’s plans to close underperforming locations around the country, including its store at Preston and Frankford in Far North Dallas. The Kohl’s at Medallion Center will remain open, according to the Dallas Morning News.
The retailer, which became the largest department store chain in America in 2012 by outgrowing JCPenney, announced in a statement that 27 of its 1,150 stores will close by April. Kohl’s has almost 90 stores in Texas, but only one will shut down.
In 2019, the Medallion Kohl’s at Northwest Highway and Skillman Street downsized from 80,000 to 60,000 square feet, and the remaining space was adapted for a Planet Fitness gym. Kohl’s remodeled their store to accommodate more online shoppers.
“As we continue to build on our long-term growth strategy, it is important that we also take difficult but necessary actions to support the health and future of our business for our customers and our teams,” explained Kohl’s CEO Tom Kingsbury in a statement.
