The Lake Highlands High School Varsity Football Team will square off against the Flower Mound Jaguars tonight at home. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
The Wildcats are coming off a blowout win against North Garland, 53-13. The Wildcat defense held the Raiders offense to only 164 total yards, including an astounding -8 rushing yards.Â
On the offensive side of the ball, Cory Campbell’s squad racked up 400 yards of offense, mostly through the ground game. Seven different Wildcat rushers logged rushing attempts. The rushing attack was led by running back Christian Rhodes, who ran for 199 yards and three touchdowns on just seven attempts.
Quarterback Harrrison Day recorded seven passes, completing four for 82 yards. The former wide receiver also contributed to the ground game with four rushes for 38 yards and a touchdown.
Flower Mound defeated Wylie last Friday in a shutout, 38-0. Quarterback Noah Spinks threw for 256 yards and three touchdowns. The Jaguars have a potent rushing attack, led by Marcus Simpson, who ran for 132 yards and a touchdown on 13 attempts.
Wylie was held to just 92 passing yards, completing just 10 passes on 24 attempts. Flower Mound’s defense forced three turnovers, including two fumbles.Â
Flower Mound runs an up-tempo, spread offense. Coach Cory Campbell told the Boneyard Coach’s Show that the team will likely run a three-safety look to counter the Jaguars’ speed.
The Dallas Morning News’s Sports Day staff have unanimously picked the Wildcats to win tonight.Â
The team will have a bye week next week before opening district play against Pearce on Sept. 27 at Wildcat-Ram Stadium.
