While this weekend may not have the holiday excitement of the Fourth, there’s still plenty to do around the neighborhood. So, here’s this week’s list of things to do in and around Lake Highlands this weekend.
Watch the Euro Final at Lochland’s
8518 Plano Road | Sunday 2 p.m.
Whether you’re a diehard soccer nut or a casual fan, the UEFA European Cup Final on Sunday offers plenty of excitement. Pitting England against Spain for the first time in a major tournament since a 1996 Euro match in London which ended in a penalty shootout, the match has all the signs of a classic. The neighborhood pub, Lochland’s, will have plenty of TVs and pints of Guinness to enjoy the game. You may want to consider getting there early, as big matches tend to draw larger crowds.
Celebrate Bastille Day
Celebrating the beginning of the French Revolution, Bastille Day is celebrated every year on July 14. So, this Sunday, you can get in the spirit with some local offerings. Resident Taqueria has added a special ratatouille taco to its menu with fried eggplant, summer squash, basil and cotija cheese for $6. Haute Sweets Patisserie also has an array of French macarons to choose from.
Join in on For the Love of the Lake’s second sunday cleanup
1152 N Buckner Blvd | Sunday 8 a.m. to noon
White Rock Lake is the beating heart of East Dallas and Lake Highlands, so why not pitch in and help maintain its natural beauty? From 8 a.m. to noon on Sunday, neighbors can swing by and get supplies from For the Love of the Lake’s offices in Casa Linda to help clean up the Lake. The distribution is drive-through, so there’s no need to leave the car.
Enjoy Southern Methodist University’s Meadows Museum
5900 Bishop Blvd
Hosting one of the largest collections of Spanish art in the U.S, the Meadows Museum features works from artists including Picasso, Miró, Gris, Goya, and Dalí. The Museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors over 65 and $4 for non-SMU students.
Try out north Greenville Ethiopian cuisine
Vastly underrated, Ethiopian cuisine is hearty and filling. The north Greenville area has plenty to offer, with restaurants like Desta Ethiopian and Sheba’s serving up traditional favorites. Hand washing beforehand is highly recommended, as Ethiopian food is typically eaten by hand with the staple Injera bread.
