LH Family YMCA
The Lake Highlands Family YMCA will distribute free fruits and vegetables on Thursdays this summer.
Part of a partnership with New Mount Zion Baptist Church and Brighter Bites, a nonprofit organization which provides free fruit and vegetables to thousands of U.S. households across the country, the distribution will take place on Thursdays throughout the summer. The first distribution will take place tomorrow, June 13, and will run from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. The same schedule will be kept throughout the summer.
The fruits and vegetables will be distributed at New Mount Zion, located at 9550 Shepherd Road.
The YMCA has previously partnered with both Brighter Bites and New Mount Zion for the same program. Brighter Bites was originally founded in 2012 by a mom, Lisa Helfman, who wanted to make nutritionally-sound produce more widely available. Since 2012, the organization has distributed over 65 million pounds of produce across the country.
