An Irving ISD school bus crashed along White Rock Trail near Lake Highlands High School Wednesday and came to rest near the DART tracks. No students were on the bus at the time, and the bus driver was not seriously injured, witnesses said.
Dallas police and Dallas Fire Rescue responded to the scene about 2 p.m. to find the school bus had busted through the wooden pylons which separate White Rock Trail from the new walk-and-bike trail parallel to the roadway and broken through the chain link fence. White Rock Trail is narrow along that stretch south of Church Road and, fortunately, was not yet teeming with schoolchildren walking home from school or to the recreation center across the street.
It’s unclear why the bus driver veered off the road. Orange netting has been stretched over the gap in the fence until repairs can be made.
