The app allows customers to order food from home cooks and chefs, delivered in less than an hour.

“Dallas has a world-class restaurant scene, but nothing compares to the taste of a bespoke crafted home-cooked meal prepared with love,” Morley Ivers, a co-founder and CEO of Cookin, said in a news release. “It’s like having a private, yet affordable, chef on-demand.”

Cookin launched in Canada in 2022, and the company raised $17 million earlier this year, according to a news release.

Dallas was chosen for its American debut because of its “food-curious consumers and a superb pool of talented food creators.” Cookin plans to expand to Austin and Houston later this year.

Items from local businesses such as Strouderosa BBQ and Haute Sweets Patisserie are available to order from Cookin. All cooks who offer food on the platform must have a Texas food handler’s certification and pass a kitchen inspection. Cooks keep 70%-85% of the revenue, according to the news release, and have control over their schedule, menu and pricing.

“Many of our amazing food creators are sous chefs, line cooks and private caterers looking to reinvent themselves, on their own terms, and launch their own businesses,” Cookin co-founder and president Michael Baruch said in a news release.

And for every order Dallas residents place on Cookin, the company will donate to the North Texas Food Bank.

Orders can be placed on Cookin’s app.
