Dallas Park and Recreation is working on consolidating the many plans that have been developed for White Rock Lake Park and updating the language.

This will help the department organize priorities for the park and determine how much funding is needed to complete projects.

“We have tons of policies, tons of plans,” District 9 City Council member Paula Blackmon said at an April meeting of the White Rock Lake Task Force. “They need to be in one area in which we can then go after bond money in 2024, because last time, we didn’t get our fair share of bond money in 2017.”

At the meeting, Blackmon said that the White Rock Lake Task Force would be involved in the master plan project.

The city council authorized a contract in April with consultant Dunaway Associates to “update and consolidate various master plans, studies, design standards and guidelines, and previous park improvement plans.”

Last year, the park department finalized an operations and maintenance plan for White Rock Lake, intended to be a “comprehensive guideline for the maintenance and operation of White Rock Lake Park,” incorporating past planning efforts and best practices but allowing for updates as needed.

“We will gain information from people in order to then create memorialization of an item of what we want to do at the park,” Blackmon said at the April meeting. “That is the way you ensure that there is a plan forward that is financed, that there is money allocated, is if you have a plan.”

The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. July 18 at Winfrey Point, 950 E. Lawther Drive.
