Willie B. Johnson Recreation Center at Hamilton Park has been closed for construction updates for the past two year, but now it’s closer to being reopened.
The recreation center, which has a rich history attached, has a projected opening date for Nov 1. It was named after Willie B. Johnson, a Hamilton Park resident who advocated better access to sports and recreation for community youth.
The recreation center was built in her honor in 1983. In 2020, we covered when the $12 million upgrades were set forth.
The District 10 Councilman Adam McGough shared photos of the construction progress, including a new dedication plaque, monument sign, senior multipurpose room and technology center.
