Compared to fathers, a majority of mothers cite childcare as a reason for reducing their work role or leaving the workforce, according to a 2021 McKinsey workplace study.

Mommies in Need, led by Lake Highlands neighbor Natalie Boyle, is the only nonprofit of its kind and has a childcare center near Parkland Hospital called Annie’s Place. It began in 2020, six years after Mommies in Need was founded in 2014.

Five days out of the week, Annie’s Place provides play, meals and a hospital playground for children as their mothers attend health appointments.

Mommies in Need’s free family services include emergency care for patients at Parkland Hospital, childcare at Annie’s Place, play therapy and a virtual community with licensed professionals.

Mommies in Need can be supported at mommiesineed.org or with the purchase of a Mother’s Day gift at Kendra Scott’s West Village location with the special code ‘GIVEBACK-BQXPO’ or by mentioning Mommies in Need at checkout.
