If you plan to attend A Taste of Lake Highlands Junior High this evening, be sure to swing by the White Rock Fishing Derby booth. Lake Highlands High School senior Jackson Marburger and LHHS grad Drew Harman, now a sophomore at Texas Tech, are hosting the inaugural fishing derby May 14, and they’re looking to recruit sponsors and anglers from their own backyard.
Marburger and Harman founded the Wildcat Bass Fishing Club, and the student organization took off like a house afire. The team won a big tournament in February, besting 24 other schools from around the metroplex.
The White Rock Fishing Derby is open to all ages, whether fishing from bank, boat or kayak, and there’ll be prize money for the winners and awards for longest fish and shortest fish. Pre-registration is open now, and the $35 fee includes a t-shirt. The price bumps to $40 on derby day. Lunches are $10. Check in starts at 7:30 a.m. and derby fishing runs from 8:30 to 11 at White Rock Lake.
Marburger and Harman will have help from the Wildcat Bass Fishing Club, but they are seeking more volunteers and sponsors. If you’re interested, contact Harman at 214-616-0261 or Marburger at 713-852-7599.
