The Dallas City Council last week approved David Weekley Homes’ plan to build 29 new houses at Greenville and Old Greenville.
The homes will be built on acreage the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas purchased in 1993. The Lake Highlands Family YMCA was built on about half of the 8-acre tract, and the rest was left undeveloped.
The redevelopment plan received 13 letters of opposition, and neighbor Tammy Lynn spoke in opposition at several public meetings, including the final City Council hearing. She said neighbors fear the gated development will cause too much traffic.
The developer has to widen Old Greenville Road to ease the flow of traffic and to update the traffic signal at Greenville. David Weekley Homes also has agreed to clean up the alley the development shares with the Northwood Estates neighborhood and continually maintain it.
The two-story homes are expected to be similar to the ones David Weekley build at the Lake Highlands Town Center and priced between $400,000-$500,000.
