Because we are working on the home design issues (April) I’ve been reading Architectural Digest, for inspiration. To my joy, I stumbled upon an article about neighborhood native Marc Rebillet, a brilliant nut who makes you (language NSFW) sit up straight, smile and bob your head until you can take it no more and just straight-up start dancing.

Like other performers whose fame is internet reliant, launched from a social-media/YouTube springboard — which is not to say he isn’t a magnificent live act, because he is — Rebillet blew up during lockdowns.

As Jeff Gage notes in his must-read Playboy.com piece, “the 32-year-old electronic musician built a cult following online with his wacky, improvisational videos, accruing 1.8 million followers on Facebook and another million on YouTube, which he parlayed into a successful touring career … Such digitally focused tactics have helped Rebillet add to his fanbase during the pandemic.” (Gage also mentions in the article Rebillet’s connection with fellow Booker T. graduate Erykah Badu and an “unconventional live show” they did together in Fort Worth.)

The point is, for the purpose of this conversation, the Lake Highlands native who since moved to NYC recorded often from his Manhattan apartment, which AD calls “sleek, sexy and fun.”

Somehow this dude whose signature attire is bathrobe has this incredible aesthetic.

“Marc’s light and airy two-bedroom apartment in Lower Manhattan is clean and pristine, featuring statement art, vintage finds, and even a couple trophy pieces that’ll give true furniture nerds hearts in their eyes,” writes Carly Olson.

After the arts magnet, Marc attended but dropped SMU. He played a lot of gigs at The Common Table, now shuttered, before he got famous. I tried to reach him for an interview, but haven’t been able to land that one just yet. Note: I call him a Lake Highlands native based on Mike Brooks’ Observer article. I have no reason to doubt this intel, but please message me if you wish to confirm or deny. Hell, he probably lived on the same magical street where St. Vincent Annie Clark and Daniel Hart both grew up. Something special in the water on that block.
