Jake’s was founded in 1985 by Jake Keller, nephew of Jack Keller, founder of Keller’s Drive-In. Greg Garvey later acquired the restaurant chain, and MAD Concepts purchased it in 2021. The GameDay addition began in 2022 with the purchase of End Zone, the former Go For It Sports Grill at the corner of Northwest Highway and Plano Road.

Jake’s GameDay now boasts four additional locations, including the former Picasso’s Pizza space at Skillman and Walnut Hill and restaurants in Plano, McKinney and Little Elm. The Tailgaters website already lists those as locations “coming soon,” along with current sports bars in Frisco, Plano and Wylie.

Tailgaters is known for their 20+ big screen TVs and variety of domestic and local beers on tap.

“We’ve crafted the perfect blend of a neighborhood pub vibe and top-notch sports haven,” says their website. “Elevate your experience with entertaining games like pool, Golden Tee and darts, creating an atmosphere where the fun never ends.”

The menu at Tailgaters includes traditional sports bar fare, with bacon-wrapped jalapenos, mozzarella cheese sticks and Southwestern egg rolls listed as appetizers. A variety of burgers are featured, but entrees also include catfish tenders, chicken sandwiches and po’ boys.

You’ll find their full menu here. You may follow Tailgaters on Facebook and Instagram.

As for Jake’s Burgers and Beer, MAD Concepts District Manager Kendra Shier says, “we’d never sell our baby. Jake’s eleven locations are our heritage properties, and they are not up for sale.”
