Venture Commercial, which manages and leases the shopping center, released the news on its social media channels, along with some history of the center.

According to the post, W.W. Caruth Jr. was the mastermind behind the development, which was completed in 1962. The first major tenant was the Medallion Department Store. Target replaced it after the store closed in 1976.

Some other early businesses there included Tom Thumb and the Medallion Theatre, where Steven Spielberg first screened Jaws. Neighbors who have been here for a while may also remember Zuider Zee’s restaurant, Sneaky Pete’s, Bijou and Blockbuster.

The Advocate reported earlier this year that Salata, a fast-casual salad chain, plans to open a location in the former Fish Bone Grill space. A spokesperson for Venture told us at the time the restaurant is expected to open by late summer.

The last retailer named in Venture’s post is Summit Salon.

In addition to the new tenants, Venture announced the shopping center is “currently undergoing an exciting renovation and will debut a new look later this year.”

Here’s a rendering the commercial real estate group included in its post.
