Whether you’re more of a Target person or a Walmart person, it doesn’t matter because both will be closed this Thanksgiving.

In years past, (except for 2020 due to the pandemic) both stores have been open for business on Thanksgiving Day. What makes this year different for Target is that Target CEO Brian Cornell announced on Monday in a memo that the retail chain will never be open on Thanksgiving again.

That includes the location on Skillman Street.

There are Target stores in each of our four neighborhoods, but none of them will be last-minute heroes for pies, drinks or anything else one forgets on the big day.

However, the change has a bright side. Workers will now have this Thanksgiving on to go home, according to a CNN article.

“What started as a temporary measure driven by the pandemic is now our new standard — one that recognizes our ability to deliver on our guests’ holiday wishes both within and well beyond store hours,” Cornell wrote in the memo to employees.
