Have you noticed the red and white “hoods” over bus stop signs in Lake Highlands and around Dallas? They are covering yellow DART signs on Abrams Road, Greenville Avenue and other streets. If you or your family members are DART bus riders, you should know there are big changes coming to routes throughout our neighborhood.
DART will discontinue its regular bus routes in some areas and replace them with GoLink, a kind of “service on demand.” GoLink uses smaller, more efficient “smart” buses, which provide curb-to-curb service. You simply enter your location and destination into the app on your phone or call DART with details, and the GoLink shuttle arrives to pick you up and drop you off.
DART says expanding their GoLink service will replace under-performing fixed routes and maintain service coverage.
“As the North Texas region continues to experience unparalleled growth, becoming a national and international destination for both residents and corporations, DART has undertaken a complete, blank-slate redesign of the existing bus system,” DART’s website says. “Working with all 13 service-area cities, employers, community leaders, and transit riders, DART has developed a new bus system that is designed to ensure passengers have safe and easy access to employment, education, and entertainment areas across the DART Service Area.”
You may view the expanded GoLink service map here.
Service will continue along Greenville, Skillman and other heavily used routes, but certain stops will be removed along the way.
Expanded GoLink service begins Dec. 6, and the bus routes officially change Jan. 24. To reserve a ride on GoLink, download DART’s GoPass app on your phone, select “plan” and entering your location and destination. If you prefer to reserve by phone, call 214-515-7272 for service from 4 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.
No cash is accepted by GoLink, but you may pay via credit card, debit card or reloadable GoPass tap card.
