A fire just before 1 a.m. Thursday damaged a three-story apartment building and left one injured in Lake Highlands.
Dallas Fire-Rescue responded to a 911 call to a building at Wood Meadow apartments at 12:50 a.m.
Here’s how DFR described their efforts:

When firefighters arrived at the scene, they observed heavy fire coming through the roof of a 3-story apartment building. After requesting an immediate second alarm response, attack teams deployed hand lines and moved in for an offensive fire attack. Despite the fire being well advanced, attack teams were able to cut it off by accessing a breezeway in front of the fire’s direction of travel; significantly limiting the damage.

Twelve of the 24 units were damaged, but the rest will be uninhabitable because of smoke and water damage. The American Red Cross has been called to help 23 families who were affected.
One resident sustained non life-threatening burns while trying to escape the fire and was taken to the hospital.

Investigators believe the fire began in a unit on the third-floor, but the exact cause is undetermined.
