Richardson ISD will comply with state requirements for all public school students to be given the opportunity to take the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness, or STAAR, exam.

The district will conduct the STAAR exam for every RISD student, both face-to-face and virtual. While RISD’s goal is to make the STAAR available to students online, state requirements mandate online tests to be administered in person, said Superintendent Jeannie Stone in a video update.

“The best way for us to be in compliance with the requirements is for us to give the STAAR test electronically instead of paper,” Stone said in the video. “This option also allows us to administer STAAR tests over a window of time rather than on one single day.”

Each school is preparing a schedule unique to their campus to conduct the exam in a way that complies with health and safety protocols. Campuses will communicate with families about their individual testing plans soon, Stone said.

“We anticipate that 100% of our students will have the option to take the STAAR test online,” she said.
