It’s been almost 78 years since moviegoers in Camden, New Jersey lined up to see the first drive-in movie – “Wives Beware” with Adolphe Menjou. Sound came from a speaker mounted on a tower, and admission was 25 cents.
Jackson Marburger and Drew Harman have something more exciting planned for Lake Highlands. The guys known for creating the LHHS Fishing Club have created Wildcat Drive-In Theatre, and the official grand opening is Feb. 20.
Wildcat Drive-In Theatre will be open every Saturday night in the parking lot of Lake Highlands Christian Church, McCree and Audelia. The 6:30 show time will be family-friendly and begin with “The Sandlot.” The 9 p.m. show will be targeted at teens and kick off with “The Blindside.”
Marburger, currently a junior at LHHS who stays active with the student council and basketball team, says he and Harman, a freshman at Texas Tech, are working to provide enjoyable entertainment for the neighborhood while following CDC guidelines during the pandemic.
“Our goal at Wildcat Drive-In is to create a fun, safe, relaxing experience for you, your family and friends every Saturday night.”
Snacks, such as popcorn, candy and bottled water, will be available for purchase at the concession stand, and food trucks are planned. Drivers may reserve a car spot online here, and tickets may be purchased at the gate. Adults are $8 (13 and older), kids and senior citizens are $5.
