Karen Clardy, whose single member district includes most of Lake Highlands, was elected president of the Richardson ISD Board of Trustees at a meeting last night. Clardy, who served as a Lake Highlands High School employee for 25 years, is in her second term on the board.
Jean Bono, a Lake Highlands neighbor who serves at-large, was elected vice president. Regina Harris, whose single member district includes Hamilton Park, was elected secretary. At-large trustee Kim Caston, the board’s longest-serving member, will repeat as treasurer.
Justin Bono, another trustee from Lake Highlands, ended his term as president after 3 years. He completed two terms on the board and announced earlier this year he will not run for re-election.
On social media, Superintendent Jeannie Stone had high praise for Bono and other trustees “who generously give of their time for the purpose of serving our students, staff, and community. We owe them all a debt of gratitude,” she said.
“Karen is stepping into this important role with experience and a heart for RISD employees, having been one for so many years,” Stone added.
Stone invited RISD parents, teachers and other stakeholders to send emails of encouragement and appreciation to the district leaders. Bono can be reached at justin.bono@risd.org and Clardy’s email is karen.clardy@risd.org.
The annual May school board election was postponed until November due to COVID-19. Debbie Renteria is unopposed in single member District 3, and Eric Eager is running against Bridgett Hudson in at-large Place 6.
